"A game about moving around in circles, alone or with a partner"
Minimalism has the power and potential to open up the possibilities for many experiences from one single interface and set of controls.
Moving, drawing, dancing, circling around and exploring the relation between two entities are some of the dynamics afforded by Two, a game that I made just because I was curious about how it would feel to constrain the possible controls of players to circles only.
Players can choose to rotate clockwise or counterclockwise. They can do so by smoothly changing direction, or by bouncing off the opposite way. Through these very limited interaction with the game, the experience of witnessing the consequences of those changes make up a very soothing and visually entrancing moment.
Though no challenge exists in this game that will make players feel victorious or motivated through defeat, the simple act of making decisions on how to move is a powerful one. Whether the player is inspired by the movements of artificial entities moving in the same space as them, or if they explore this space alone, the result is a game that rewards them for taking control of their movements, exploring motions and maneuvering their bodies fluidly and openly.
